Mel Larson Retires
Mel Larson has been part of the Burnsville Athletic Club (BAC) family for 36 years. He has been the Football Commissioner for 26 of those years. Mel has shared his knowledge of football with thousands of young athletes. While he was commissioner, he found time to coach football and led various speed improvement camps. A few years ago, he added flag football to the program, which is one of BAC's fastest growing segments. This marks the end of Mel Larson's reign as not only the leader of the BAC football program but also one of the most significant leaders that the BAC has ever had.
As a BAC leader, he was not just involved with football. During many of his volunteer years, he was a grade coordinator and coach for BAC basketball. For the BAC's 50th anniversary, he made it his mission to track down all past presidents and invite them to attend the anniversary celebration. Most past presidents were able to attend. The next leader of the football program will be Brad Schiller. Brad and his team of board members have some ambitious plans for the next phase of the BAC football program which includes the extension of the flag football program through 12th grade.
Mel Larson has had many honors over the years, including a field named after him. His overall level of achievement is hard to match. Volunteering his time for 36 years with the BAC is a mark that will probably not be broken for the next 100 years.
Hip Hip Hooray for Mel Larson!!
Learn to Prevent & Recognize Concussions

The state of Minnesota has mandated that organizations, like the BAC, certify all coaches and officials. Get certified or notify BAC of your certification: Concussion Proof of Certification
A concussion is a brain injury caused by a bump or blow to the head that can change the way your brain normally works. Even what seems to be a mild bump or blow to the head can be serious.
To help ensure the health and safety of young athletes, CDC developed the Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports initiative to offer information about concussions—a type of traumatic brain injury—to coaches, parents, and athletes involved in youth sports. The "Heads Up" initiative provides important information on preventing, recognizing, and responding to a concussion.

Grievance Procedures
Grievances
Any Member, Participant, Spectator, Coach, Director or other volunteer may file a grievance to address code of conduct violations or violations of any of the policies, procedures, rules or By Laws of the BAC. Grievances may not be filed relative to the outcomes of individual games. Individuals filing a grievance should exhaust all other means of resolution including talking with any coaches involved or the activity Commissioner. Should it still be necessary for a grievance to be filed the following procedures and penalties shall be followed. The Grievance Committee will determine the level of penalty, if any, based on the information available.
Filing Procedure
- A grievance must be submitted, in writing to the Vice-President of the BAC within 10 days of the event, stating the time, place, individuals involved and as many specifics of the incident as possible.
- The Grievance Committee will meet within 10 days of receiving the complaint.
- The Grievance Committee will consist of the BAC Vice President, who will chair the committee, the BAC Secretary, one activity Commissioner of a sport not involved in the grievance or one at large Director, and two at members of the Grievance Committee Pool as chosen by the Vice President. No participant in a Grievance Committee may be involved in the grievance at hand in any way. Alternatives for the VP and Secretary will be the BAC President as chairman, and an uninvolved board member as Secretary.
- The committee will discuss and decide the issue after the parties involved have been dismissed and will notify the parties, in writing of their decision, within 24 hours.
- Decisions of the Grievance Committee are final.
Range of Penalties for Code of Conduct, Rule Violations or Other Abuse
- Official written reprimand in Member’s, Participant’s, Director’s, Official’s, Coach’s or other volunteer’s file.
- Game or other participation suspension at the discretion of the committee, if relative to a formal grievance. Capital Campaign
The Burnsville Athletic Club (BAC) is a nonprofit organization that organizes and supervises youth sports for kindergarten through 12th grade. All board members and commissioners are volunteers. Our non-paid positions allow us to maximize what we can give the community.
BAC has been providing and organizing youth sports since 1959. In the early days, many of the functions of the BAC were executed in the homes of volunteers. Years later, we moved to the Alimagnet Park House. Our current home is in the basement of the Burnsville City Hall.
We plan to grow in many ways while improving service to our community.

Scholarships: We need outside funding in order to provide for those that can not afford our programs. Currently, a portion of paid participants is used to finance this need. Due to the economy, this logic is creating a challenge.
